Are Certified Service Dogs Allowed In Hotels?

There is no such thing as a “certified” service dog. The law does not require “certification”.There are no legitimate agencies that “certify” service dogs, as the law does not recognize it. There is also no legal requirement for any type of “paperwork” or “license” that must be carried, and no legal requirement that a “vest” must be worn for access. No one can legally ask for a service dog handler to present any “paperwork” to obtain access.
Also, simply being on disability is not enough to claim the need for a service dog.
To have and use a service dog in the US, one must be legally qualified as “disabled” under the terms set forth by the US Department Of Justice contained in the Americans With Disabilities Act, AND the dog must be individually trained in work or tasks that mitigate the life-limiting effects of the qualifying disability. If one has not been legally qualified as disabled and/or the dog is not trained in mitigating work or tasks to alleviate the effects of the qualifying disability, then it is not a service dog, it is a pet. The work or task must be something that the handler cannot do for themselves, examples; seeing, hearing, balancing, walking, redirecting are some, but not all, qualifying tasks or work. Simply “being there to keep me calm” does not qualify as work or a task.
If you and your dog do not meet the legal criteria to be a working team, then it is just a pet, and your best bet is to find a pet-friendly hotel. If you truly are disabled and partnered with a legitimate service dog, this should have all been explained to you by the organization you received your dog from, or in the case of an owner-trained dog, this information should have been presented to you by the professional trainer you would have consulted for the Public Access Test.
Yep. I have a service dog and we go to hotels. Just something to keep in mind- a lot of places will still want a pet deposit. You DON’T have to pay it, the only way you have to pay extra is if your dog damages something. They can’t charge deposits or cleaning fees for the dog.
Like others have said, there is not certification for service dogs. But new service dog owners I’ve met (mostly those who self-train the dog) are confused on that point.
Good luck with your dog.
im sorry but if you had a service dog you should know the laws!! if you are in the states there is NO federal regulations for ‘certification’
it looks like you are trying to pass off your mutt as a service dog! sounds like you are trying to do something ILLEGAL!! In many states!!!
People that do this only make it so much harder for those of us with true disablities with service dogs.
I hope you get found out and they fine you!
As long as it is a service dog and is required for disability use then you are allowed to take it in the hotel. The weight of the dog does not matter but oviously if its huge in height like a great dane some restrictions may apply. Enjoy x
Most certainly! Service dogs are allowed everywhere! They must have their paperwork though, and you might be asked to show it. You’ll also need to tell the hotel the dog is coming when you make your reservation.
yes- but many hotels allow pets anyway. my favorite hotel charges $5 per pet. it’s well worth it to fork over the five bucks. i always leave the maid a nice tip too, for having to vacuum up the fur when we leave.
As long as it is working, a service dog can go anywhere. It can even go into restaurants when they are wearing their vests showing that it is working.
It’s not a matter if he/she qualifies is he/she a service dog. If he/she is then they can go anywhere no questions asked. If they stop you contact the ADA.
YES any service dog is allowed in almost anywhere and a hotel is not one of those exceptions also check the hotel website it would tell you and if not call them.
of course, service dogs are allowed to be anywhere that people are because they aren’t pets their tools to help people with disabilities
yes even tho most hotels dont alow pets a service dog must be let in if ur disabled and the dog helps with ur condition sorry if i sound mean i just dont know any other words hpoed i helped
Service dogs are allowed anywhere they are needed to be for their work.
By law, service dogs are allowed any where their owner needs to go.
Didn’t you get this information when you got your service dog? Seems a little odd that you’d ask this.
yes. They have to allow them in so you have have your service dog.
yes and if you need him and they dont let him in they migh tget in trouble
