Sofitel in Collins Place is the most well known and the tallest building. It is also expensive. There is a hotel in Flinders Lane called the Adelphi which has a swimming pool on the roof. Part of the pool juts out over the sidewalk way below and that part of the pool has a glass bottom. Again, pretty expensive but an interesting view.

The Rialto Hotel is the second tallest building in Melbourne-you can see for miles on a clear day. The Eureka Tower is the tallest building in Melbourne, but I don't think it has motel accommodation, although I'm pretty sure it's got an observation deck.

Crowne Plaza Melbourne Hotel is located on Riverside. Very Great view at night. As I have been there before I think this hotel can serve your right. I think you can also check through the website too at http://www.excelloz.com/Oceania/Australia/Melbourne.html
